Ellesmere port paper over the crack's with marmite and are left with a bitter taste!
Missing centre alex owen and back row john pullinger we landed at Bowden with a squad of 17,skipper will tither's had picked up a knee injury playing school's rugby on saturday and we planned on resting him if we could but never had the luxury.
It was the first game on a full size pitch for most of the lad's and debut's for lewis mason and adam konchelski ment it was a step into the unknown.
The early pressure was with the oiler's and the forward's started strongly, dominating the breakdown,a couple of forward drive's and the ball was given width for mason to score in the corner.unconverted we led 5 nil.
Bowdon came back strongly and exposed our lack of experience in the centre's to score twice through their impressive outside centre to lead 14 v 5.At this stage everything we'd talked through before the game was a distant memory as our intention of playing with structure was forgotten.the forward's battled on but back row louie,bambi and jordan had the look of escaped convict's on the run as they got sucked into every breakdown instead of covering midfield in defence and wore themselve's out.Bowdon crossed again to make it 19 v 5.
we rallied before half time and will managed to wake daz up long enough for him to make a dummy run and suck in a few defenders so he could show and go in the corner and miss another kick. 19 v 10 half time.
we made changes to try and fill the gap's in defence but when we moved someone another crack appeared,we started the second half stronger but bowdon alway's looked to counter. Prop's Scary jack and aiden handbag's struggled at scrum time initially but soon recovered and jack's try was well deserved as they both had good games on the day.A little right of the post will missed another conversion.19 v 15.
We pressured well again from the restart and yr 7 wirral gs captain Lucas tither's crashed over after a blistering run up the wing,slightly to the left it was well out of will's range but the run up looked good.19 v 20 we took the lead and looked like we were taking control until bowdon struck back again with their pacy centre's cutting through our line again,george chong complained to the referee that a bowdon player had kissed the back of his neck on the way past him to the try line but the ref ruled it was wishfull thinking.harsh yes but when the bowdon 10 sailed the conversion over from the touchline we trailed again,21 v 20.
The game had not played out as we'd wished but we still battled back,louie parr had to go off because the top of one of the water bottles came off and soaked him through, connor replaced him with a look of bewilderment when asked to go openside but when the blonde flyer elston touched down under the post's spirit's raised again.still a foot off centre the kick was impossible but we led again 19 v 25.
Bowdon have improved a lot since last season but both team's to their credit never folded as the game swayed back and forth and pressure bore down,bowdon rallied again and scored the winner,blindfolded with both leg's tied together the bowdon 10 drop kicked the conversion over from the touch line.26 v 25

On behalf of Ellesmere port RUFC i'd like to convey our regret to Bowdon on the passing of their president, especially his family,ultimately everything end's, which is why we must enjoy the now
and though we lost, we were welcomed, the game was played in good spirit and we wish bowdon the best of fortune with their season.
