Following last week's win away at Sandbach they wanted a return fixture and the Oilers did not disappoint.
Ellesmere Port started as we meant to go on with some great passing and big tackles. Sandbach fought hard and in the first third managed to get 3 tries past our defensive line but Ellesmere Port fought harder and put all their skills and training into practice. Some great tackling on display from James, Stan, Liam, Noah and Matthew meant the ball got to where we needed it and this combined with brilliant movement of the ball and some lovely running resulted in a hat-trick from Mikey and tries from Max, Liam and Noah ending the first third 6-3 to the Oilers.
The next period continued to show our teamwork, speed and discipline with the roar of ‘PORT, SET, HIT’ ringing in their ears the Oilers got the ball to Max who secured the first try of the third. Great tackling on display from Noah, Lowther and Harry again combined with tremendous passing moved the ball to Max, Harry, Noah and Liam for a try each.
Ellesmere Port took advantage of some fumbles by Sandbach to finish the middle period 5-2.
The final third started with Sandbach getting an early try but this did not dishearten our boys who came back with more strong tackles by Noah, Harry & Matthew preventing the Bach from furthering their match tally. More great passing and no signs of tiredness despite the tough game resulted in tries from Matthew, Liam & Noah. In a final flourish the Oilers displayed a brilliant alliance with passing between 7 teammates, Lowther, Conor, Stan, Charlie, Noah and Liam resulting with a final tryline pass to Matthew to secure a 4-1 win in the final third.
Coach Mark commented on how well the team conducted themselves today making all the coaches proud and MOTM was Lowther and TREDS was awarded to Harry for their brilliant contributions.
