Ellesmere Port Rugby Club have just been awarded the "Pride of the North 2013" by NatWest RugbyForce
Thank you to all our teams for rallying to the call and making us the Pride of the North - Andy Joyce.
Up against teams from Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Northumberland, Durham and Yorkshire, Ellesmere Port managed to secure 1,110 votes to narrowly beat off 2nd Place team Novocastrians, who tallied up 1,098. Ellesmere Port would like to say a huge thank you to all our members, their families, supporters and the community for really getting behind this campaign. All their teams have worked incredibly hard rallying the troops to vote for their club. The support they received from various social networking groups was phenomenal, including the Pride of the Port Facebook group, the Whitby Sports and Social Facebook group and others retweeting on twitter and emailing their pleas.
The competition was aimed at getting all the grass roots rugby clubs across the UK fired up for Volunteers Weekend on 15th/16th June when we have all been encouraged to work together on a project to, not only enhance our club, but to also get us all working together and involving the local community. EPRUFCs main project is to improve the changing facilities currently on offer to our female players and members. They have limitted funds to do this and so any donations to the cause would be gratefully received, B&Q Ellesmere Port and Ellesmere Port timber have already, very kindly, donated some paint, paint brushes timber, plaster board and rollers but we desperately in need other materials. Andy Joyce, one of the main EPRUFC 'front men' said 'If people can not donate materials but they can donate some time during the weekend then pop down to the Whitby Sports and Social Club and we will soon find something for you to get involved with.
Ellesmere Port Rugby Club has steadily grown in numbers over the last 10 years and is a real Community Club with something to offer everyone. We have Senior male teams, a Vets team, 10 Junior teams covering ages 5-17 (mixed teams upto age 12), 2 Girls teams at U13 and U15 and are developing a Ladies Touch Rugby Team. We will be running Touch Rugby for ladies and gents through the summer for anyone who wants to ease themselves back into the game or maybe just give a new sport a try. Sharks Community Trust would like to congratulate Ellesmere Port for their success and wish them all well for their 'volunteers' weekend.
